I went to this school long ago and I have missed it ever since John Tyler elementary is the best there ever was
I have been calling me this school attempting to get my kids documents and the operator is NEVER AVAILABLE.
Its ashame that the school system does not care about the special needs of all students. I would not recommend this school for any parents. On a direct personal level my experience has been horrible. I hope that every parent listens and makes sure they do not go through the same embarrassment I have.
This was a pretty good school. Would highly recommend for elementary students!
This school is the worst that I have experienced as a parent. I was already skeptical because they went from a 4/10 rating to a 2/10 rating on great schools. So I was against my kids attending. As I searched for other options one school told me they've reached their capacity for out of district kids, John Tyler was a great school, and not to pay attention to the ratings on great schools. So I took the advice. About a month into the school year one of my kids were having behavioral problems with keeping his hands to himself. Every time I asked him what happened he said another kid was messing with him so he messed with them back. I asked him if the teacher knew about this, he said no. So I brought it up to the teacher, her response was "this could very well be true but this behavior is constant with my child." I understood. Later my child got diagnosed with ADD so everything was making sense. We informed the school but instead of giving him the proper learning environment they wanted us to put him on medication. The more I talked about a special needs environment they said he's not sever enough and suggested medication. My child continued to have these issues and was suspended 4 times before the principal even met with us and decided to put him in a behavioral program in January. I asked why are these precautions just now being taken when I've been asking for this since the beginning? She claimed she was not aware. My initial thought was if you are a principal of a school shouldn't you be familiar with the troubled kids as well as their parents, but I looked passed that. My son was still having behavioral problems so I wanted to sit in on the class. I contacted the teacher about it, she told me to contact the counselor or the front office. I contacted the counselor and she didn't answer the phone, but I left a detail message. Then I called the front office, they said they will let the principal know and she will get me a call. After 2 months and contact 3 individuals I have yet to receive at least 1 response about me sitting in on my sons class, but I have received plenty of phone calls about his behavior. The last elementary school my kids attended I was always welcomed even encouraged to come sit in on my children's class with no hassle, which made me think what are they hiding to where no one will respond to me about sitting in on my child's class. There was also another incident where my child came home with their braids taken down. I asked what happen they said one of the girls took it down. I thought how on earth is it possible for another child to take down my child's hair without the teacher interfering. Another incident is when it was 17 degrees outside, my child took off his shirt and was walking around with only an undershirt on and came home with only an undershirt on. Of course my child should have known better but what adult lets a 5 year old child walk around in freezing weather with a tank top undershirt on and doesn't demand them nor call me to ensure his shirt is back on! Clearly the children weren't being watched as they should have been. Long story short I've learned if your child is not perfect this is not the school for them. They don't know how to talk to the child, find out the problem with the child, or why the child is acting the way they are. They just complain about the child's behavior and suspend. When the child comes back from suspension they say how behind the child is in learning because they never send work home to be done on suspension. They absolutely do not know how to deal with kids diagnosed with ADD. They are completely one sided in reprimanding the kids, as in if your child gets into it with another child, who ever wasn't severely hurt gets into trouble or suspended, not both children. Lastly they discourage parents being involved with classroom settings.
