It's also in the Student Code of Conduct that self defense is not an excuse for fighting. I've heard of several cases where the victim defends themselves and gets suspended for fighting, but the perpetrator stays at school unpunished.

I am currently a junior at CHS, I've attended a large number of different schools in my lifetime due to custody battles and this is the worst school I've attended by far. The classes are low quality and it's rare to come across a teacher who seems like they actually care about our education just as much as a student who cares about their education. Not to mention the incapability of most teachers to control the classroom to maintain an efficient learning environment. Churchland has little to no school spirit, their electives and clubs are so limited, neither the teachers nor the students actually want to be here for the most part, fights seem to be a norm, and as much "security" as they try to ensure I still don't feel safe nor comfortable here. To think that Churchland is supposedly the "best" school in the portsmouth public schools district is just sad. I can only hope for the best for Churchland High School.

As a former student at this school, I am ashamed to be affiliated with this so-called accredited institution.

worked at the school. Then she( the mother) had the nerve to be in the meeting to make sure my child get punished for laughing at

To start with, this school has a 1.0 (D-) grade point average requirement for graduation, and my guidance counselor said flat out that the standards were lowered so that the school could pump out more graduates. As if that wasn't enough of a clue, they seriously don't care about the student's success. In my junior year of high school, I was placed into Spanish 2 for a second time even though I passed it the first time, and they refused to transfer me out of that class.

behavior then his academic. My son was suspended for laughing

My best friend (who is handicapped with one of the worst forms of cerebral palsy) had an "assistant" who would constantly abuse her verbally and leave her behind in fire drills (had it been a real fire, this person would have left my friend to die). When reported, no action was taken.

Had I been placed in Spanish 3 like I was supposed to, I would have been able to take my missing math class in Senior year to finish up my Advanced Diploma. Not to mention that my counselor failed to tell me that if I had taken a math class at TCC (I was enrolled in the dual enrollment program, so I couldn't take it in second semester) I would have gotten my AD.

information it was suspension. The teacher grade him on

During the four horrendous years I was there, I heard about one murder, two rapes (one between teacher and student, judged as statutory rape. The kicker with the other one is that the school didn't even know about the rape until the girl's mom went to the school and informed them. Nobody was manning the security cameras when this happened.), several counts of vandalism, and more. Fist fights occurred often, usually with very little action taken.

I could go on and on and on about how utterly terrible this place is, but I think anyone reading this review would get the point. Stay as far away as possible. The staff is incompetent, their ways on handling student disputes are ridiculous, and student success is far below their priorities. This place should be shut down.
